The transformation in my daughter's playing has been remarkable. She went from reluctant practice to genuinely excited about her lessons. Both rigorous and nurturing.
— Sarah M., Parent of Grade 5 StudentI started lessons as an adult beginner, feeling quite self-conscious. The patient, encouraging approach made all the difference. Now I'm preparing for my first exam and actually enjoying it.
— James T., Adult LearnerExceptional preparation for my Grade 8 exam. The attention to detail and musical insight helped me achieve a distinction. I couldn't recommend Harrow Piano Academy more highly.
— Emma L., Grade 8 DistinctionMost children are ready for one-to-one piano lessons from around age 6, once they can read short words and sit comfortably for 30 minutes. Younger children can absolutely start earlier — every child develops at their own pace, and a consultation lesson is the best way to find out.
Absolutely. Adult beginners are warmly welcomed. Whether you've never touched a piano or are returning after years away, lessons are tailored entirely to your goals and pace — no exams or pressure unless you want them.
Yes — regular practice on your own instrument is essential to making progress. A full-size weighted keyboard (88 keys) is fine to start, though an acoustic upright is ideal. I'm happy to advise on what to buy or hire before you commit.
The studio is on Draycott Avenue in Harrow (HA3), with easy access from across north-west London. Online lessons are available worldwide via Zoom or FaceTime.
Weekly lessons are strongly recommended for steady, meaningful progress. Fortnightly arrangements can work for some adult learners with busy schedules — we'll discuss what suits you best at your consultation.
It's a relaxed first meeting at the studio (or online). We'll talk about your musical background and goals, you'll play if you'd like to, and I'll give you a sense of how lessons would work. There's no obligation to continue afterwards.
